In my 1980 GMC k3500 it has a 454 in it with the manual transmission, I remember when the 400 engine and the th400 transmission was in this truck the four-wheel drive shifter handle was really solid not hardly any play, but when my brother put in this 454 and the 205 transfer case the handle is very sloppy as if it's going to fall off, is there any adjustments that can be made or is this normal?

Check the bolt that fastens the shifter & grease it too.

There's a bushing in the base of the handle that's most likely bad as most are, if gone long enough the bolt or handle can get wore out too.
