i would convert to all 16"s. 16.5's are getting alot harder to get a set(resonable priced while still good performance). If i step up to 8bolt axles, Im gonna run either a set of 16's or 17's.

i didn't want to haul 2 spares i imagine the 17's tires are quite a bit more expensive? plus new/used rims

16's would be just fine. I say that i would possibly go 17's because i would be buying a full set of wheels that were 8 bolt.
You could get a set of 16's and keep 1 16.5 on you as a spare and leave 1 at home.

There are more 16" sizes available these days. You don't need to carry two spares though, as long as the OD is close between the two.

Go to 16 inch - the reason the 16.5's were already changed is cause the tire had a tendency to leave the rim if you got a flat which could be fatal on the front - lt 245/75/16 is the direct replacement size - just make sure they are "e" rated for load - you have low gears out back like mine - i use lt235/85/16 toyo m55 , great for hunting /snow/logging roads -
