Hi,
So when i start my truck in the morning (I havent correctly adjusted my choke for the cold yet), i pump the peddle a couple times, then when it starts up i get on the gas till it gets to around 2000 rpms and hold it there for a minute, for the first 10 or 15 seconds of this i can hear a ticking, which goes away when i let off the gas peddle and doesnt come back, only when the engines cold. Makes the same kind of noise as an exhaust leak, and sounds constant with engine rpm, what could it be?

Thanks!

Going immediately to 2K on a cold start really isn't good for the motor. It takes several seconds before the oil starts to flow well.

I know it isnt good for it, so i try to let it rev down to like 1000-1500 and then rev back and forth for a few seconds, if i dont it just dies out

A lifter is bleeding down while it sits. Is this a high mileage engine ?

If it can't idle up on its own you should find that issue and fix that. Take a recording of this sound and post it here do we can give a better opinion.

Approx. 35k on it, GM crate engine, replaced by PO, or atleast he said it does, and from the way all the parts look it looks to be atleast close to that

I know, my choke isnt adjusted so that is why i have to put my foot on the peddle, and my fast idle screw isnt correctly adjusted either - just need to find the time for that

sounds like a lifter, are you running really thin oil? could try a little thicker, or pull the valve cover and check ... i had one that would tick every once in a while on my k10, low oil level could bring it on too

Still sounds like a bad lifter , unless it's an oil pressure issue .

When warm, the minimum is 10lbs for every 1000 rpm. Most small blocks in decent shape have around 20-30 lbs at warm idle.

Cold start is usually really high even at idle, like 50-80 lbs.
