I have slowly been looking into upgrading my 4x2 87 r-20
I have talked to a guy in town that was highly recommended and well speaking to him he had suggested me finding a married th400 with a NP-205 so its less work adapting...He said that we would rebuild it from the ground up with putting parts from a 97+ to a 2009 4L80 transmission in the TH400 the main part would be a Direct drum with over run clutch and some intermediate plates.
Another thing he had recommended was a tranny brake.
My question is is this wise? i am also looking for a Dana 60 with springs so i can fully convert my 4x2 into 4x4.
Any comments on this plan
