I'm in need of a new Trans because reverse is out in mine and I can find plenty for 100-200 dollars but no 4X4 applications near by can I swap the tails of them so it will work with my NP205? If so then I'm in business! My only worry is if I buy it and attempt to swap the tail sections and the output shaft will be to long and I've waisted time and money.

thanks for the help

The tail shaft would be way too long. You have to get one from a 70's 4x4, it doesn't matter if it had a 203 or 205 behind it.

You would have change out the tail shafts. To do so you have to pull the who transmission apart. At that point might as well just rebuild the one you have or find a 4x4 trans. I'd rebuild it.

thanks guys yeah that's what I was thinking. I think I found one for 200 about 4 hours away that's coming out of a wrecked truck but was rebuilt and has a B&M shift kit in it so hopefully that works out and I get the upgrade too.

if it's the b&m shift kit I had you'll like it very much. Not sure on a 4x4 app. tho. I ran it in a car and it'd bark em nice switching gears.

I would get the car trany and put the good parts in the 4X4 case. Its not that hard, There are books/vidos on the rebuilding process. I believe the book tells you how and where to drill the plate for firmer shifts, and what balls to leave out.

Its not rocket science
