I have an 84 C20 4X4 and thinking of different options. One is rebuilding the 350 in it. Another is transplanting the 5.3 in it and another thought is putting both the 5.3 and 4L60e in it. What thoughts do you guys have as far as whi trans is better to have? I'm thinking the 4l60e woukd give better milage but have read its not (that) much better. The truck will be use for driving, maybe even for several miles a year and to pull a trailer some but not for mudding or hot rodding.

They are about equal apart for overdrive. 4l60e is basically later model 700r4 with electronics and few improvements. It will work, but no towing in overdrive. 4l80e would be a better choice, but for casual use 4l60e would be fine as well

Don't forget if you don't have a ECM you will need to buy a standalone controller for the 4l60e which can be a big chunk of change.

Ya don't tow in over drive. The 5.3 with the 4L60E would be cool though. Dose not look like a cheep swap to convert to an LS but would be cool.
