So Im finally getting around to ordering my motor.

one last question before I purchase.

I have been told that GM switched to a 1 pc. rear main in 86. But the motor I want to purchase is a 67-85, with a 2pc. which would require me to change flywheel and such. (I drive an 86). BUT, I was looking on the tag on the door panel and it says it was made in May of 1985, but the Manual says It is a 1986.

I know that I have asked before, and have been told this will work.

But my main question is, if my door panel says "5/85" it should be a more direct swap without having to replace a flywheel and all of that jazz?

Anyways,

Thanks as usual guys.

V6 flywheel is different from the V8 flywheel.

Really? I thought they all used the 168 tooth flywheel, but thanks Phill.

Theres 139 tooth, 153 tooth, 168 tooth, internally balance and external balance, two piece and one piece rear main seals. Best bet is to just get a flexplate to match your new motor if your unsure, then if it turns out the one in the V6 matches the new flywheel just return it.

Solid advice, I've just got some jitters about this swap, I have never done one before and I have a buddy helping me, but I just want everything to go right.

I suppose if the door panel says "5/85" It probably is a 2 pc. rear seal model, But the manual saying 1986 throws me off. But I guess I will just have to find out and go from there.

Nothing to be scared of, the motor your putting in belongs there, and the factory made parts to put it there are cheap and plentiful. You might run in to something unexpected on the way, but if it was easy everyone would be doing it. The 350 is well worth the work and your only regret will be not having done it sooner.
