I did a metric sh*t ton of audio system installs back in the day. I was always the guy that everybody called when they had a system they wanted installed. Couldn't beat my wiring and installs back in the day in the area. I probably could have made a career out of it, but didn't want to be crawling around in cars for the next 20+ years. If you need some advice on wiring lmk, really easy when putting it all together.
Same…

Doing head unit and subwoofer installs insured I always had beer. I also was the go to guy to repair the budget installs done by the big box stores and to tone out wires in cars after the head units were hacked out by thieves.

Thinking back on it, I probably should have charged more than a 30 pack

Is there a truck / car audio thread where we can show off our vehicles systems past or present?

If not I’ll start one.

This definitely counts as past. Many years ago I bought a book on building speaker enclosures. My father helped me with the wood cutting, he had the power tools. 3/4" Fin Form plywood, 13 layers, very dense. Covered the outside with gray vinyl that matched the seat. The aluminum front I set up on the Bridgeport to mill the grille slots. Wrote a program to make the slots different lengths so they would not vibrate.

I took it out of the '82 to replace the speaker and put it in my GMT800. Of course it won't fit easily as it was custom made to fit the Square. Correct cubic feet displacement for the sealed box, 12" Sony speaker.

Back then the sound would vibrate the windshield, make the rear view mirror dance!

Mr Jamie Wilhite (owned J’s Sound Center, Monroe, LA) taught me how to figure interior resonate frequency, box design, etc etc when I was in Monroe in the early stereo scene.

Built plenty of boxes, and lots of installs for him. Could have made a career out of it, but decided to go back overseas, chasing thrills.

Know and still occasionally see Mr Bill Savard. All this was in the days before computers & pink noise tapes, when we used to use Irene Cara’s “What A Feeling” to set up systems. Built a few boom trucks.

Knew George Reed (no clue if he still living) one of the original USAC founders/members.

I’m sure audio made me outdated by the mid late 90s, but that is ok. I was there in the early stages.

Much like “No Prep” racing, when we rolled them off the trailers and drove straight to the bleach box. Wasn’t any monitoring weather, changing tunes, etc, you run what you brung. Now both have just involved in a money sport.

Have you had any issues as far as fitting the bench seat without having to pull it all the way up
No issues on fitment. The sub box only hangs over the edge of the factory ledge/shelf maybe 1/2”-3/4” of an inch max. I’m short at 5’7” and slide the seat almost all the way forward when cruising. But I can slide it all the way back when I’m needing extra space working on dash, interior, etc. In other words, plenty of leg room.

I have a JBL 8” Subwoofer located under the passenger seat, absolutely love it! I am utilizing the factory dash and corner speakers with the subwoofer.
Everything is plug and play with the Retrosound head and Crutchfield OE wire adapter. The JBL doesn’t draw a lot of amps so I piggybacked onto the cigarette lighter. Not a boom box by any means, however delivers a rich full sound.
