My 1982 C10 stepside SPID says "400BAA Special paint-sing". It's in the bottom right in the pic. It looks like regular Tangier to me. Lower dash/glove box area is the original paint. Any idea what this color is? Maybe a fleet vehicle? Thanks!

I would go to a paint shop. Maaco for instance. They have ways of identifying and matching colors.

OR this, if ya have $80 and an Amazon account:

I'm pretty sure your truck may have been a fleet/contract for a state/utility rig. My retired USDA forestry truck has a similar RPO with "special paint". Mine is the forestry service green: "Federal Standard 34350. This color is a specific shade of dark green, sometimes referred to as Forest Service Green." So probably a special fleet color was applied when it was built.

No (that is, no idea on the color).

"Sing" would indicate single color (not a two tone).

Typically special paint vehicles are noted as "special paint" and the code but there is no decode to the actual color and recipe.

For example, on a Pontiac it might say "special paint" but no color is mentioned. The owner would need to find a section of original untouched paint to determine it was tiger gold or Mary Kay pink or whatever.

I see it originally had a Medium Almond interior, so someone has switched that to black/charcoal.

I'm intrigued with a couple other options:

It has the LR60-15 tires (fat tires, like 8 inches wide) and rally wheels, but 305 cu in engine and highway rear gear.

Somebody was interested in looking cool (with special paint and fat tires on a 1/2 ton 2wd shortbed stepper) but not interested in going fast.

I would say not a fleet order based on those extra cost tires and wheels, and the fact that the color appears metallic (fleet colors are typically non metallic, and therefore cheaper).

Here's what those tires looked like on a factory aluminum wheel:

Thanks for the info on the wheels and tires. I've always thought fleet truck but it's a Silverado as well and fleet trucks were usually lesser optioned. Who knows??

So I got the invoice from GM Heritage. Turns out it was a Boeing fleet vehicle. Well optioned for a fleet vehicle.

Wow. Yes -interesting options for a fleet vehicle. Makes me wonder if there are more out there.

I'd like to know more about how that color relates to Boeing. Typically you can see the relationship: Forest Green for park system use; Consumers Power had a signature baby blue; all the Grand Trunk Railroad trucks were construction orange; even the RCMP had a color scheme (a weird red/purple combo).

Also interesting that it was built in Oshawa (Ontario Canada). That means the build info would also be available through GM of Canada (https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/). Same info but with a little different spin - they might even have production volume information.

Your invoice is a bit different format than mine.

Yeah, I spent some time googling mid-1980s Boeing pics to see any orange trucks. No luck.
