@bucket If you weren't kidding about the pixie dust, wouldn't that potentially clog the system? I guess that would fix any leaks, though.

I'd check with air pressure and soapy water in a squirt bottle first. There should be a test port under hood for doing this, you'll need to regulate air pressure down to 8psi or so. Alternatively set your shop vac hoses to blow instead of suck, stick the hose in the fuel filler and look for leaks with soapy water.

Friend of mine said use a cigarette, I said I don't smoke, he wasn't amused, and the conversation then continued on how to go about testing for leaks with a cig.

No, not at all. It was a super fine substance that was not harmful to anything. It was expensive and purchased from our Snap-On dealer.

Careful. Smokes are expensive and you don't want a square with a 2 pack a day habit

Except maybe lungs.

I don't remember it being harmful to lungs either. I'm really not sure though, it's been a while. I don't remember any warning labels that cautioned not to breath it. It was definitely new enough that it would have had big safety labels and warnings everywhere. I think we purchased it in maybe '06.

I wonder if vape fluid would be an option.

But that stuff definitely is bad for your lungs. Tried it a few times and it felt like someone had spray painted the inside of my lungs with clear coat. Not worth the squeeze at all.

I bought one of these for about $8. Another couple bucks for a Swisher Sweets 2 pack. Took the fingertip off a rubber glove, taped it to one hose end and put it on my intake. Taped a swisher into the pump, lit it, and started pumping. Have found leaks in a few different vehicles with that system over the past five or six years. You control what it smells like...Cookies & Cream flavored Swishers last time.

Color me coocoo but I bought a fog machine and a bottle of fog juice at the party store to diagnose leaks. It takes a little finagling (rubber glove over the throttle body or carb, etc) Hooke the output to a larger tube (pcv or brake booster) furn it on and watch. A powerful flashlight at dusk seems to be the best time. I’ve caught leaking intake gaskets, EGRs, cracked vac lines all on the cheap.

Well after browsing, looking hard at this one, but CEL hasn't returned yet...

I have the autoline pro. I've used it a few times and like it so far. I like the variable pressure to find large or small leaks. Used the higher pressure for an intake leak on a 5.3 ls. Hairline crack on bottom of plenum only caused problems on cold days. Went through 4 cans of carb cleaner and never found it.

anyone tried a Halloween kind of smoke machine ?

just wondering if easy to adapt or make use of for mechanic use..= easy to buy with plenty of competition, along with the juice.
