There's no need to use brute force to remove that pin with the broken bolt. I ran into the same issue when trying to replace axle tube seals a few years ago, and my buddy brought over a kit like shown in the link below.

It worked well and he got the busted bolt out relatively easily. It's a pretty ingenious design. The best part is that there was no collateral damage to the carrier or anything else.

That's a game changer in my mind, at least a little bit. One of my concerns in changing the gears myself was the possibility of damaging the carrier banging the pin out. If I decide to do the gears myself I'll order one of those extractors. I've put one in my cart so I don't forget it. Would you mind elaborating on how it is used? I'm guessing the drilling part is done by hand? Did it take very long? Thanks.

Most GM rears, you can remove the right side bearing cap and have access to use a drill. Remember bolts are case hardened so the center is softer and drill-able. Use a 1/8" bit and use the Ridgid type screw extractor.

You should take it for a run on the drag Racer app in Google play store. It's a really fun app.

Yours still works? After a while, my app couldn't keep a GPS signal for more than a second or two, which made it constantly reset. Maybe I'll download it again and see.

That sucks. I haven't tried it in a while. That was an old picture of the camaro. Now I'll have to try mine tomorrow now I have the new 700r4 in the square.

Yea, I have been seeing a white Toronado on my drive home, sweet boat ride floating down the road. Talked to the owner at a stop light, said it has the BB 455 in it.

I drive this one the most, 99 Bonneville, left work on Wednesday, and heard a crunchy sound, then the power steering was intermittent, temp started climbing and noticed some smoke at the stop light. Pulled into a parking lot and coolant leaking, water pump seized. Called tow truck, hauled it home, backing it off the flatbed and the rear lower ball joint decides to let go. I have some more work to do. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of more to come. I have another 235k to go before I retire it at 500k.

Admittedly I am a tad aghast at the lack of squarebody trucks found in this thread.

Cool idea OP dude. :waytogo:

On my way to work in a 1988 Blazer. 350/350/3.42s on 31-10.50 R15s.
