Because we had a snow storm and my truck is 2WD I haven't driven it since installing the shelf, well that changed today. I chained it up made my way out of the farm road and on to the main road. 5 miles later the road was clear enough to take the chains off. As for the shelf, I like it so far. For the most part I do not feel like it is infringing on my vision. I did not have issues seeing stop lights in town. I have it set so the bottom of the shelf is even with the bottom of the blue tint on the windshield. I will drive it for the rest of the week at least like this. At some point I need to take the shelf down, and spray adhesive to bottom part of the carpet to the wood, and wrap the part that holds the shelf to the roof. I may shorten those pieces a tiny bit in order to raise the height of the shelf, maybe. We'll see how I feel after I get some mileage on it. Right now I'm kind of at the point where I like having the shelf, it doesn't bother my vision, but yet it just feels a little strange having it there, so we'll see how I adjust.

Well that's it. I love the shelf. It's totally something I'm into. I've driven it three days now 1 hour each way to the shop, so I've got about 5 hours behind the wheel in it with the shelf there and I'm at the point that I hardly notice it when driving and it's a great place to store little stuff that would otherwise be sucking up seat space or I'd have to leave on the dash.

I took the shelf down today to fix my mistake. I pulled bottom of the carpet off the shelf and glued it to the board with contact cement to keep it wrinkle free and from sagging. Again using what I had on hand I had two choices spray adhesive, or Dap brush on. I don't really like using the brush on but since the board I used was a rough cedar board I went with the brush on so it would fill in the rough areas better. Just like with the spray on stuff you coat both sides let it dry a bit and when you stick it together it's stuck!

Looks a lot better, but the truck is going to smell like glue for a few days I'm sure.

Hows the shelf working out Rob?
I'm planning to make one (sort of got started mocking it up already), but curious about yours after a few years.

Have one installed. Visors reattach to tray with no issue. Easy to installinto oem visor screw holes.

CONS: No partitions. Things slide side to side on turns.
What about some of that rubber like shelf liner to stop the slide?

Well I'm only about a year late replying to this..... Well more than a year. I've had mine going on 4 years and I LOVE it. For me it is really nice to have that extra bit of space, did you ever make one?

Why not. But also once you get enough stuff up there it doesn't slide around as much.

Been looking to add one of these for years. Probably make it out of something “fancy” to go with the other cab woods. Deleted all the chintzy brushed aluminum trim, replacing with real hardwoods, kind of ChooChoo Customs style, but no oak.

Truck has a permanent plate, so once the engine/transmission are good, increasing utility value is a must. Hard to justify keeping a 2wd for “utility”, but…
