Looks like it still has good hinge tabs too, SCORE! These are bad about breaking those tabs if the lid gets mis aligned. I have one of these factory in my Crew Cab, got one to go in Burb once I get his front end sorted out. Gotta change the washer bottle and pump on both trucks and this box sits on top of the washer bottle, on the newer OBS trucks.

Yep the hinges are good, and it doesn't look like anything has ever been in it. I'll fab a bracket to mount it in my square. A plus to the boneyard is the little restaurant across the road. They sell beers in a frozen glass, and when you're soaking with sweat, it tastes like the nectar of the gods! Lol

There is a great diner near the Northside Houston LKQ, and the SW Houston one is about 5 minutes from home. That frosty beer looks good on Friday afternoon though, I gotta admit!

Its a little early to be thinking about exhaust for the Cummins swap, but I saw this for sale for a month or two ago and couldn't pass up the deal.

$80. Full 4 inch exhaust kit from like an 03 Silverado. Will need a downpipe then it should be pretty dang easy.

It's never too early to gather any part that may come in handy for a swap. You want all your ducks in a row when it comes time to screw it all together.

Although, this is coming from someone with hoarder tendencies, lol.

I'd have to look, but I'd bet a just a short section mandrel bent 4 inch is probably $80 by itself! I also have hoarder in my blood but I'm half decent and fending it off

A question for the yard pullers - do your scrapyards charge you a core charge? I went with some friends to a yard a couple weeks ago, and everything had a "core charge" added to the price at the counter - presumably you'd get it back if you brought your old one in. Except that if you're scraping parts out of a salvage yard, you probably don't have an old one to bring back (or the time to drive all the way back up there). Has this become a common thing?

That's interesting. Sounds like they don't want to lose any scrap value. Only reason I can come up with is that they want your "core" to use as scrap. Maybe its because metal prices are low right now and there scraping for more metal? Either way it seems odd practice to me.

My Pick N Pull has always had core charges.
The core charge varies on the part and I have both returned things and not returned things.

For the big block Chevy I purchased, I returned a seized up air cooled VW four banger for the core.
They didn't care that it wasn't the exact same make or manufacture, just that it was in fact an engine.

Just a few bucks for an alternator, so that would probably cost as much in fuel to return the item.

I have been using the same yard for the last 34 years now.

Core charge at scrap yards is super common. Many times it's low enough that people don't return the core,so bonus for the scrap yard. If the cores come back they have scrap metal to sell as well. Some have an environmental fee too.

Yes they do on most parts. But it varies a LOT... aluminum wheels are $15 each core, steel ones are $1.

I know the last time I went to Wrench-A-Part outside of Austin some of their items had a core charge.
