Irony here is, ive been telling my friends,

"One day i wanna put togethet another naturally aspirated 327"

I once had put together myself a 327 long journal, bored .030 over, with + dish pistons decked head, forged internals, and vortec heads.
I wanted to make a fire breathing, 8000 rpm motor that ran on 100+ octane
I estimated c/r would come up to 13 or so with that setup.

Like a young gun, i sold it to a friend, he threw it in his 23 bucket with a th400 and a 1000+ cfm carb, he sent videos.... that was a flat nasty , DANGEROUS motor.

Id like to do that again.

Sad part i didnt add was, he ran it out of water and cracked it, sold the whole thing off for dirt cheap.

Think ill give it a little thought. I cant replicate that previous small journal build, but slapping a set of vortecs on, with flat tops would get me my 10 or so, maybe ill do that.

Would be fun to make some reliable power with an old nickel block (thanks for reminding me of that @HotRodPC )

A 3xx hp 327 would be fine.
Ive wanted to do the "old school" way of making power like my dad told me about when he was a young man, using junkyard **** to make it.

Honestly, id like to push something like that alot harder. I have nothing to lose.
It's been a goal to push a "no ***** given" motor to its max.

While the power my 4.3, 5.7, and 8.2 make might be impressive, theyre all docile and are capable of so much more

Maybe this 327 is a chance for me to push the limits like ive wanted to.

High ignition timing, high compression, serious flowing heads, high rpms, etc

Would like to push 1 motor to its absolute physical limits, just to say "i could"

Yeah, it's incorrect. Iirc, my '69 327 is the same casting number.
Yes, 3970010 is 68-69 327 or 69-79 350. Bottom line, it's a 4.0 bore large journal block and came in 2 or 4 bolt mains, 2pc Rear Main.

Now i just need to decide what to do with it :hmm:
I'd run the suffix #'s. It could be a 350 that someone put that intake on. Be sure what you got.

The numbers in front of the passenger head on the block?
Those yielded no result for a 350 or 327
The crank number would tell the story

We just happened by a sale yesterday that used to be a VW mechanics hoard of crap.
He sold the property and needs to get rid of it all.

I just so happen to be looking for a simple stock set of heads that can be reworked to fit the engine in my car as the heads on it are old random heads the builder had in his shop at the time.
They are not ideal for a driver style car.

Max and I spent a couple hours there going through all his little sheds and buildings looking.
We found many things and then found a matched set that at least did not look like garbage.

So we went and talked to the man and for $40 I took them home.
Not much excitement for you all, I know.
But it gets me somewhere with another of my cars.

Oh, and I saw a truck box that was half buried in crap.
It looked like a full size truck box and the half we could see opened.
I told Max to ask the man what he wanted for it and the guy said we could have it for free.
So that is relatable to the site.
Photos of that to come as Max cleans it and repaints it....

Post up that serial number on the flat in front of the cylinder head. The casting date on the back of the block would also be helpful to go with that casting number. Between those three numbers you should be able to figure out exactly what you have.

I didnt see a date around the bell casting , just the 3970010 on the lower flat of the bell casting,

And "C 1244" on passenger side upper flat around the bell.

The stamped number on the front was like, V00xxxxx

Cant remember
