My 88 Suburban 6.2/700r4 has 3.42 gears and I'm looking for tires. Most of my driving is highway/interstate, and is my DD, it also is my hunting/fishing rig.
I'm really thinking 33x10.50r15s in the BFG AT's but am worried i will not have any get-up and go.

Are these tires too much for the gearing?

i think 3.42's would be borderline on 33's and a 700.

I'm not too familiar with the power band of a 6.2 lower RPM is sometimes nice for a diesel...

So if you were in drive your RPM would be 2264. If you are in overdrive it would be 1576. Isn't that pretty much only 150 RPM less than what you are doing now at 65 mph?

And you probably don't have a whole lot of hills around there... and those tires are somewhat narrow... I think it would work. Just don't pull trailers. The low first gear in it will get it off the line.

6.2's don't like high rpm at all. I too think being that your going with the lighter 10.5 wide tires, have the 3.06 first gear to get you rolling off the light you're probably going to be OK with the 33's. You don't have to use the OD if you decide it's to much tire or don't use OD unless above a certain speed like 65 or so. You don't have to let it go into OD at 45 mph. Just use D, unless you on the interstate. Worth a try.

Agreed. If it were a gas motor I'd say it's a very bad combo, but it should be workable with the 6.2 motor. As always though, I'd say a good cooler and trans temp gauge is a very good idea so you don't accidentally cook the trans.
