When I built my 383, brand new everything, about 4000 now, still have to get injection. Looking at Fitech fuel injection, there's another grand. So I'll have about 5 total in my motor. Just a regular stock rebuild, I have no idea, have never built a stock motor.

I started my last build @ $700 in, and ended up near $1400. That can build a very strong motor IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF - (only pay for machine work and own the tools)

I don't believe that to be average. I believe average cost to be twice that.

I'm currently building a 400 sbc. my machine work was pretty basic and cost about $730. I went with Dart SHP heads which I was able to get for $488 each after a summit bucks rebate. I've got about $1000 into the rebuild kit and other parts like the intake, cam kit, PS pump, water pump, fuel pump, rockers, long tube headers etc... All total I'm about $2700 into it + the $300 that I paid Quadrajet Power for the rebuild on my stock Q-jet. So that $3000 is going to get me to about 420 hp and 520 ft-lbs of torque at around 2800 rpms... I wanted all my power and torque in the low end for pulling my boat.
