Hello all,

Id like to settle on a plan so i can keep an eye out for deals.

I have an 84 c20 3+3 long bed. 4.10 gears, th400 trans.

I want to be able to drive 70-75 or heck even 80 (after i run through the brakes lol) on the interstate. I want to keep is towing ability the same. Or better.

That said, please take a look at the poll options and let me know your thoughts.

I want to keep the sbc, its the og engine and it works well. When it comes time, id like to build on it to double factory hp, for a huge 280 or so hp haha. Maybe more, but nothing crazy. Its purpose will remain to look cool and do truck stuff.

Any of those options would work. For me it would depend on the available parts, cost, load, percentage of higher speed driving and modifications required. 3.73 is decent ratio but even higher would be desirable for hi way use. Another option not mentioned is a gear vendor overdrive.

I'd go 4l80 especially if your truck came with the gears and transmission you listed. The 4l80 is a th400 with an O.D. The factory already picked an appropriate rear gear and first 3 gears and transmission strength they thought would work well with your truck. In the future a cam, better heads, and better exhaust manifolds/headers and you'll have a fine tow rig.

I'll get my knowledge up on the 4l80.
