Ok fella I'm at work bored and I thought of a question. When did American auto makers start using metric fasteners?

here in canada, we switched over to metric in 1976. we started to see little bits of metric crap popping up around 1980, and its been more and more ever since. usa is the "only" place that uses imperial now days.

79 was the beginning of 10mm banjo bolts on the calipers of squarebody trucks.

In 1980 GM started using metric bolts for fenders and body fasteners. They could be quickly identified by their " blue " color. Any bolt on and in the enging or transmission was american. Eventually everything became metric.
