Depends. In the past, that would eventually cause the hose to swell and get spongy. You had to use specific hose rated for oil.

But not that long ago, I went to the parts store and told the dude I needed 3/8" rubber hose for oil. He cut me some hose and when I got home, I looked and realized it was labeled as fuel hose. When I looked up the number printed on the hose, it turned out that it was rated for oil too.

I went out and looked at the number on some that I have, SAE 30R6 KX, and looked it up and sure enough, it says for gas, diesel, and lubricating oil.

Im using fuel line for my PS return when i put a filter in. I didnt research it before hand, but its been used successfully for 5+ years on another application, its from the same roll. I will do it again when i put a cooler in, but it was the only 3/8 hose i had.
i only have 15/32 trans fluid line
