You don't grab the handle like that! If it kicks back that's how you get a broken wrist or arm.

You CRADLE the handle in your open hand(s). Bring it around until you feel compression, give it a quick pull up, and away you go.

...or drag the thing around in gear with a tow strap til it fires off...

Damn, that sucks.

I'll be honest, I didn't actually spin a bearing, but I actually thought I had after hearing a horrible knocking noise. I still had oil pressure, so I drove the rest of the way home (Thank god I had the forsight to get real snow tires for the rear). and parked it for about a week. When I started it up again, I found that the noise was just the fan hitting the radiator support that was held in with bailing wire.

Agree. Very easy to start.

No choke. It just starts up every time.
