Do you want 100% original looking, or do you want good looking and long lasting? Good 'ol white enamel will be the only way to duplicate the original finish.

On the backhoe attachment for the tractor the powder coat is flaking off is my concern.... and talking to the original owner (Dear o'l Dad) we had an interesting idea, White Pearlescent paint, the color will go back to the metallic mahogany.

People always claim that powder coat won't chip, peel, or rust. But that's BS. While it is more durable than paint and often easier than painting (just blast it and coat it), it can chip and scratch. Once that happens, it will rust under the powder coat and will eventually blister and peel everywhere. Removing powder coat is not as easy as paint.

Powder coat is still a good option, just don't expect it to last forever.

I attempted to spray bomb my steelies. I screwed up the clear coat so I started getting powder coat prices. Found a place to do them for $35 a wheel. Rest is history.

I am not saying I would do it again however. I think I would look for a nice epoxy marine type white paint that could be sprayed through a gun.
