I’m on a hunt for a 350 block to build for my next winters project. I want a one piece rear main. My truck is an 86 c10 with a 305. Will the post 87 blocks drop right in or am I stuck with looking for an 86 with a one piece rear main? Thanks in advance.

'87+ block is a direct replacement. Using the '87+ heads is almost a direct swap.

Although some later blocks were not drilled for a mechanical fuel pump. Nothing an electric pump can't take care of.

I think 96+ "Vortec" engines have no mechanical fuel pump provision, you also have to contend with the different intake mounting angle if you keep the vortec heads. Its all been done and isnt much to overcome.

There are later model TBI blocks without provisions for a fuel pump. The mounting boss is there, but holes aren't drilled/tapped and there's no hole for the pushrod.

'87-'95 cast iron heads have a revised angle on the middle intake bolts. You can easily modify an aftermarket aluminum intake to fit, just by slotting the holes and making wedge shaped washers. For a while, you could buy aftermarket carb intakes meant for the later style heads, but I'm not sure if any are still produced.

Vortec heads have a completely different intake bolt pattern.

The Blue and White trucks gave up their engines over the summer one day.
They are a '99 and '97 vintage and both have roller cams in them.
One is destined for my '54 Bel Air and the other is going into a '76 Nova.

One will have the stock Vortec heads and the other will not as I have more budget than the kid that owns the Nova. We picked them on a half price off all parts pulled from the yard day. Mine as a short block ended up costing me just $90.50 and the other was a long block that cost $135 out the door.

These were complete vehicles like the red one when we showed up and 7 hours later this is how they looked.
