The pink wire is the ground side of the gauge. The gauge gets power in, the pink wire passes ground through the ******* valve and the selected tank,the sender puts a varied ground of 0-90 ohms of resistance to ground. So for examply 45 ohms resistance to ground through the sender would be 1/2 tank

There was 2 different questions - 1. what does the pink wire that goes to the gauge carry....volt, ohm, etc, and 2. what is that single wire with the button end on the sending unit for?Is your ‘85 truck a mixture of old and new, because the single wire Pollak tank valve was only used on earlier trucks. Your ‘85 should have a six wire valve. Also, the picture seems to be of the fuel sending unit, not a tank switching valve.
