The problem around here is finding a doner. Ive kept a regular check on the yards in my area and have yet to find one to recover.

You might be right. Someone obviously likes them, or they get taken out and trashed long before the vehicle is junked. As mentioned of all my Silverados only 2 even had the backer in them.

...and they arent the ones with the flat tops, they have the little handles built into them so they stick down about a 1/2", got to watch your head.

1976 was the first year for a headliner, standard on Silverado, optional on others, even Custom Deluxe.

That would be incorrect, my 74 Cheyenne Super came with a factory headliner in it.

My truck came with one from factory (although it is a long bed).

I took mine to a local upholstery shop because it was sagging and cracked. Had a bad corner near one of the visors, they were able to fix it no problem. Biggest cost of it was the new material (was about $60 to get redone). They filled in the corner with new backing and if I remember correctly, they used resin to solidfy the repair to the rest of the headliner.

I'm going to go about my repair / recover on my headliner differently.. I'm going to cut all the holes out after i lay it on with spray glue.. I went with Vinyl for the roof.. Easy to clean when we get back from hunting/fishing/ pissing away a saturday in the bush.. Then i can install my trim and interior light and box light.. Those two things where never in this truck to start with when i got it..
