parking brake cable help wanted

sorry i forgot to take a picture.

1985 k20 13" brake drums.

does the armored parking brake cable 'lock' into the brake shield/plate or does it just pass through the hole without 'mounting'?

my cables pass freely through the brake shield/plate hole.

It should have a ring with some tabs on it that keep it from being pulled back through the backing plate.
