So I got a bunch of junk for sale, one of which is a np208 that I no longer need since I'm using a Ford 60 in my s10's sas.

Guy came thru last night wanting to buy it. I was just sipping on my Miller high life listening to him preach to me the finer points of 4wd, it's lore, and proper procedures, and all this other bs that i have already had experience with or know (well at least some of it, some of it he was just running his mouth, I just wanted money and listened)
I really am not a "believer" in the 4x4 religion, neither do I take it that seriously, neither do I really care about someone's sermons about 4x4.

I just enjoy it as a hobby

I need a "reality check", I could be mistaken in my question I'm asking.

He asks for a rag to wipe the new process factory tag off, I just assumed he didn't know for sure it was a np208.
He's there with his phone in his hand and a flashlight, shining it on the tag, looking at his phone, he's there for a while.

I ask "what are you looking for?"

He replies "the gear ratios don't match"

I ask, what do you mean?

He shows me the numbers in the middle of circular new process tag and says those are what gear ratio low and high range are for the transfer case.... He claimed his for his 89 Suburban had a different high and low range, the numbers didn't match the pic off of the case in his truck and he wasn't sure if mine would work.

Now here's the question:
Aren't all np208's 1:1 high, 2.61:1 low?
I did not think, or was not aware that there was different ratios that came in np208s. Maybe I just haven't paid attention, but as I said, I'm not interested in the finer points of 4x4 religion, in my mind it's "just a np208"

So can someone answer this for me?
Thank you, I need to ease my mind

Yes, NP208 has a low gear of 2.61:1. Did the person buy it from you? My thought, one of two things, he had no idea of what he is talking about, or he was hoping you would lower the price because the transfer case might not be what he needed.

If he had an '89, it would be an np241 rather than an np208. Iirc, the low range ratio is slightly different between the two. Like always, high range is 1:1.

Sounds like he didn't actually know what he was looking for, or what he was able to use.

I'm taking it to him later today with the hood off the suburban.. He's 5 min from me

That was my suspicion, just trying to jack me around to lower the price.

My thoughts are also the same as yours @bucket, he's running a np241 and doesn't know it. But he claimed his is a np208.
Figured he just was making up ****.

I was about 99% positive there were no different np208s with different ranges, but again, I haven't really studied the finer points of it lol

NP241Cs have 2.72 low range.

Here's a 241 driver side drop...
