Hey guys new to the forum. Looking for some info on mating the Np205 I currently have behind my th350 to a sm465 a friend of mine has. What I have gathered so far is my t case input is a 27 spline input shaft and the sm465 I'm 90% sure it has a 32 spline output. The sm465 is out of an 88 k1500. Wondering what I need to do to mate the two together? Any info is appreciated.

Depends on which adapter the t-case you have uses. The 205 case with the 32 spline input should have a round bolt pattern where it connects to the adapter. Unless I'm mistaken, the 205 you have is the older style, with what has been referred to as a racetrack or figure 8 pattern of bolts. Most likely, the easiest way would be to find the later 205 with the round adapter pattern, and the 32 spline input.

Yes my 205 does have the 8 bolt pattern bolted up to a (I believe) a round six bolt pattern th350. If I could get a 32 spline input for the 205 how hard are they to swap out. In just looking at my options. Thanks for the replies.

I can't recall if the adapter is different when it comes off the 32 spline 465. I'll try to remember to look when I get home. I have one 10 spline and one 32 spline trans. If the older style adapter will bolt to the newer trans then yeah, you could get away with just the input gear. I keep thinking it won't, but I'm not positive.

So I found a 10 spline 465 for $50 and a 10 spline input shaft for sale but the price was not posted. I checked with a local parts yard and I can get the 8 bolt to 8 bolt adapter for $80. Other than that I need the sleeve between the two? Or should I look for a 6 bolt np205? And what is a stronger/ better set up? My friend has a newer 465 with an aluminum top cover and a 6 bolt adapter. Are the newer design 465s any better. Just looking at my options. Thanks for the help.

I had school after work last night, didn't get a chance to check the difference (if any) between the early and late 465s. I'll get a couple pics tonight, should be around 4 or 5 pm

I've questioned if there's any advantage to either spline count on here before, and from what I was told, there's little if any difference strength wise. This is the thread where I brought up the question

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10664

It's explained better in the thread, than I can type from memory.

Thanks for the info guys. I kept looking around and found a 465 with a 205 mounted to it that was pulled out of a 83 k30 diesel for $400. I might just go get that. Good deal? That would be a 10 spline still right?

Yep. That would be a 10 spline. I think that's about the same price I paid for the '84 465/205 combo sitting in my garage too.

No idea on that. Haven't priced an auto in a long time. Best bet, would try to see what they're selling for in your area. Around me, there's not a lot of consistency to the prices of 205 t-cases. Seems they're either a screaming deal from someone who's tired of it being in their way, or they think it's made of solid gold.

Anything special I need to know about setting up the clutch? I plan on running a hydraulic clutch. All new parts for a 83 k30 diesel. Master, slave and clutch.
