i am buying a 85 seirra with a np208 and it needs a motor and tranny.i have a 355 and th400 and np205 from another truck. what are some of the pro's and cons of me wanting to swap out that 208 for the 205 i currently have.the only reason im wondering is its one less thing to remove from the ground on a creeper and if there virtually the same. any info appreciated

No cons just put the other setup in it.

I would swap in the 205 it is a better t-case IMO. I'll take a gear drive over chain driven anyday.

Go 205. The 1 and ONLY con is the crawl ratio for 4LO. NP208 has a nice crawl ratio almost 3:1 and 205 isn't even 2:1, but real close to it. Still, go NP205.

i have had several trucks with the 208 t case and have never had a problem with them, Although i never ran tires bigger than 33s. they seem pretty durable if your not real hard on your truck, they are fairly easy to rebuild and plentiful to find a spare if you need it, and fairly inexpensive.
