I am going to look at a 84 k10 with blown up 305 and 4spd with granny low in a few days and could use any help scouting for trouble areas to check. The truck is a project and has rust but , I am more concerned about where to look for cracks in the frame and unusual areas where the frame may have rusted through. While I dont plan to use the truck for hard core wheeling I would like to have a tcase that can handle a rebuilt vortec 350 and towing. Any tips or something I might not think to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy!

Sounds like frame damage is your biggest concern? Look at where the steering box mounts to the frame, specifically the backside where the bolt heads are. You'll have to really stick your head up in there and get a good look. Engine crossmembers are also commonly cracked, but doesn't seem to cause trouble (it usually goes unnoticed). Look for rusted rear spring hangers, and a rusted frame in the areas the hangers mount to.

Welcome. Be picky and look at a few trucks if you can. They have a habbit of stealing your heart when you go look at them.

I have been looking for a while and found some nice looking trucks in pics but, hard to justify buying one that looks nice to let it sit outside all of the time. The one that is close by has the engine removed but looks stock, the other I want to look at is an hour away but they say ti runs and drives.
