couple of weeks ago I got 3 trucks to build into one (project grumpy). Was going to go at it and try to get a truck on the road ASAP. well, yesterday changed all the that. I am now the proud owner of a fourth square body. A kid came to the shop and told me he was selling his 1986 chevy 4wd 1/2 ton. Well one thing led to another and he drove away in my jeep cherokee and I own the truck. We had to put a brake line and master cylinder in it last night. Now here's the funny thing. I thought the better half would be a little irrate, she asked if I was done buying when I bought the 85 a few weeks ago. Well, she wasn't, turns out her first truck was a 86 chevy. We decided to take it out of town to show a buddy, guess who drove. she wants this truck when I get grumpy built. I'm taking the camera out to the shop today and taking pictures of it to post. Oh, most important part, the kid told me the guy before him had put a 350 in it, the tag say 305. So we got the number off the drivers side back of the block and all I find online is that its a 327 block. I'm going to pull the altenator today and see if theres a suffix code. Funny thing is , this truck is white too, I hate white.

Awesome Awesome Awesome. With the Wife's approval, you're home free on your projects. That's about as good as a blank check, provided the funds are available of course. You're over the major hurdle though.

Getting the Wifey to back Youy is a mighty fine day.
Years ago,I rebuilt two 350s and the numbers on the block came out to exactly what You have, shows a 327.I think I had to measure up bore and stroke to see what I actually had, this was before innernet was discovered,at least to the public.

If it's a large journal 68-69 327 block, that IS the same block as a 350. Only difference in the large journal 327 and 350 is the crank for a shorter stroke. Bore diameter is the exact same. 3970010 is the most common 350 block and can be either 2 or 4 bolt main.

Here's the pictures as promised. Had a buddy show up at the shop this afternoon, He just scored different rims for his truck so the ones you see on the truck are his old ones (16's) originally it had 15" rallies with 235/75R15 on them. We got it up on the hoist and I ended up draining and refilling both axles. I think the original grease was still in them. The 208 case was leaking but I think I got that fixed. Dropped the engine oil and filter and put fresh in. I'm thinking the 700R4 has some grief, at different times today it shifted funny. I'm going to get rid of the flexsteel seat and put a stock one in, just don't like it. I'm thinking a tilt wheel would be good to. Axles are geared at 3:73. Going to need exhaust soon, cobble job on it now. Looks like the gas tank is new. I'm still pinching myself over this one. Funny thing is, now I have a fleet of square bodies.:happy160:

This is just what we talked about at the shop tonight. Here's the numbers we found.
Back of the block, drivers side was: 3932386
Front of block, pass side: 06462xxxxx

Here where it sits right now, I'm still going to finish the build "project grumpy". I'll drive this truck for now and then decide what to do with it once the project is done. Does anyone know the best place to get body mount kits? We are gong to try and knock the rusted body off the 78 this weekend so I can get started on coating and prepping the frame. I might have just scored a brand new 20 gallon gas tank off craigslist for $30. I'm figuring on coating the frame, new tank, brake lines and then drop the body on. The bed on the 86 is perfect. I could just switch beds between the two, pretty much whatever is left over the boy will buy and have a truck similiar to mine......of course, mine, being better:Big Laugh:

You need the letter code on the Passenger side head pad behind the alternator to be able to identify what came out of originally.

But as far as that block, I think I'd hold onto the bitch. That is the 68-69 Large Journal motor I thought it would be. That cast was the 300hp 350, LT1 350, 327 and also the very rare 302 block and it is a 4 bolt main motor. Not that it's any different than any other 4bolt 350, but someone looking for a 68-69 #'s correct block for a restoration, would be willing to spend more on that block. So NO, it's not a gold mine, but it is a more rare 302/327/350 block.

There might be a guy out there right now restoring a 69 Z28 Camaro looking for that block.

1968-69 3932386 350 300 350 4 LT1,4
1968 3932386 327 - - 2 A
1969 3932386 302 290 - 4

Thats what I found online also, the 06462 xxxxx us what we could see looking in behind the altenator with the good flash light, If we get time this weekend we'll probably pull the altenator and make sure thats all that is there. I plan in pulling it and drop in one of the 78 350's I have. I know its really a snappy motor. even with a 2bbl on it. Where do you buy your body mount bushings, I want to get a set ordered for the 85 body I'm putting on the 78 frame.

I've not bought body mount bushings. I'd imagine LMC Trucks might be the place but someone recently had a bad purchase from LMC on the some window rubber, so I'd ask around to someone who has bought and used bushings for awhile and see how they're doing.

I've heard that before too. And with their brand name and reputation on the line, I'm sure they'd want to make a good product, and back it up even if they got a bad batch of rubber.
