Hello all!

For a Father's Day/Birthday present to me, I bought a 1981 C20 Silverado Camper Special with 68,800 miles on it. Nice truck and it's nice to be able to haul stuff again. Now for a couple of tweaks, checks, some new weatherstripping, change of fluids, cat-back system, and this stock truck will live long in the family. Tonight I need to adjust the modulator valve to get better shift points.

My previous truck was 1965 C20 Fleetside. Unfortunately that truck was rolled while I tried to avoid an accident. On the plus side, it will be reborn.

Let me give this a try, and hope my boss doesn't walk up as I doing this.

Pic with the racks was taken 45 minutes after picking it up. The other pic was taken Tuesday after work. According to the sticker in the glove box that shows all of the accessories and options that were installed at the factory, all are still intact, just not all are working, such as the AC, wiper washer, and a few other odds and ends, but all in all a sweet truck!

Another truck that would look awesome with that Sunset Bronze Mica color and the White on the bottom. :waytogo:

I like the stance on 2wd 3/4 tons. And they don't even look bad with plain white wheels and the OEM hub caps. Could sure some OEM Paddle mirrors though. Some like those biggo honkin mirrors, I'm not fond of them. I do need a set though. That's what were putting on Old77's truck.

He's also got a good looking 81-82 Bumper. Usually sought after to put driving/fog lights in the bumper. He could do the same. Even though his is 81, he can move the park/turn lights to the grill and install driving or fog lights. I took both bumpers off those 81's I parted out. Sold one of them and kept one for one of my 2wd trucks.

I have some better mirrors to put on it. I agree, those mirrors drive me nuts, I couldn't back up the truck for nothing with those things sticking out 3 feet, that's why I turned them in. Still not right looking out the passenger side mirror though, the vent post gets in the way. Good thing there is the little round mirror to see cars in the right lane.

I too, like the stance of the 2wd 3/4 ton trucks. I always got complements on my '65; that truck was BAD!

I will be leaving this truck mostly stock. I have some aluminum modular wheels with some General Grabber AT/2's mounted to them. Want to wear down the tires a bit that are on it now because they are pretty much new. First mod, if you call it that, will be an adjustable modulator for the t400, and some rear shocks to help smooth out the ride.

I have some vortec heads for the motor going in the '65, but I have been debating whether or not to put them on the '81 instead. It runs pretty strong as it is, but I know the vortec's are a good inexpensive bolt-on for extra power. I may just buy another set for the '81 and leave the parts alone I have bought for the '65. Decisions, decisions....but it all boils down to the budget and what is needed vs wanted...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a 65. Now I know what's under the cover. I was gonna ask. I had a 64 GMC 3/4 ton at one time that was pretty bad ass !!!

Sounds like you got the right plans in mind for it. I"m hoping to keep my 84 C20 all OEM. welllllllll, except for the Olds 455 motor. But it'll look OEM in there.

If I do decide to go the vortec route for the '81, I will buy basically the same setup I got for the '65 since I have the part numbers and then both will be setup the same with the exception of the smog parts. Not sure if the intake I got will have all the appropriate smog ports and such. May have to pull it of the box tonight to see what it has. I do have an Edelbrok performer or performer II intake that is on the other motor. That would be a very easy swap and also get me motivated to work on the other engine...lol...:)

The '65 was a gift from my grandpa. I had just put in a new wiring harness around 2004, put in a crate motor in '98, was about to switch it over to front disc brakes and fix it up, and then the roll-over accident. Man I was pissed! But there were angels riding with me that day because I had a front hub assembly for my Cherokee flying around in there and it never hit me.

I want to keep it mostly stock because of fuel prices and maintenance costs on the fleet I currently have. Luckily I am only paying on one of them. The others are paid for, well paid off, just in need of some TLC. :)
