Hey guys, my dad wants me to get a newer silverado, but i want a 70's square body. i have a square body but it would take a lot to get it back on the road. should i stick with the square body and keep working on it or give up on it?

Things the square body would need:
New front fenders
New engine
Gas tanks put back in
A lot of electrical work
Paint job
Drive shafts put in
New brake lines
New shocks
Tail gate
All the rust repaired

Compromise. Give up on yours and get a newer square that's done.

Stay with a square! I had the same problem before I bought my 84' and now after 6+ months of owning it and daily driving it for half that time I regret nothing. Replacing things on it is easy and cheap to do, plus it's different everybody has a newer truck.

Then keep it and get a parts truck for parts. But understand that a lot of time will go in to it.

Sounds to me like you already have your answer, so the next question becomes what do you want it to be DD or mud truck?

you might be able to find good sheet metal that will fit better than reproduction locally. If all around is rusted, then lmc might be the choice. I would prefer someone ship me a good used gm fender instead of getting one from lmc.

i have a set of fenders from my dads square, but they need some work... like one of the fenders was filleted out in a mud bogging accident and would need to be bent back in shape and welded. Should i spend time on them? And to reply to 4wdkc i would want it a dd but be able to play with it and enter it in some mud bogs.

It is not unusual to find where someone made keyless start on these trucks. Especially common on farm trucks. And for fender, look around for a good shape one. There are still a lot of parts around for these trucks, especially fenders.
