Hey y'all,
Saw this on Gearz this morning. Who's gonna be the first Cave Canary and take one for the team?

Well, it's a complete package and new production. On the down side, I hate the granny gear and the aluminum case doesn't inspire confidence. Just my opinion.

Aluminum case is not what the NV is about. What NV did you get it from? I know the chevy NVs have a lower reverse gear wich is nice. Dodgers (R) is high for backing up a heavy load

I have two. One is from a 93 with the low first gear. Paired with my 4:56 gears, Low and first gears are useless on the street. My new rebuilt one is a "Unicorn" from a 94, a crossover from the old to new style. It shares the same case and mounting dimensions but has the newer 5:61 first gear and removable shift tower. After driving both, the latter is much better for a daily driver. After 96, the Chevy and Dodges were the same gear wise. Dodges had the larger input shaft but even that can be swapped into the GM version.

I'm curious how these new ones shift and the noise they have? 4500''s shift like butter due to their carbon fiber syncro's and they are inherently noisy. But, for brute strength and piece of mind you can't beat em.

Their claim of 30-50% increase in MPG is BS!

Nice review and intel. I have an NV to put in my 78 with a 5.9 out of a 96 3500. Going to have to do a hydro pedal conversion. It's an auto now.

I looked into these transmission as a replacement to the NV4500 in my 99 C3500. 1st is already useless in it with 4.10 rear an a 5.61 1st in the NV. The TR-4050 is worse with its 6.16. They have a slightly better gear set for it with a 5.81 1st gear but at the moment its for Fords only for some reason an I couldn't find a way to get that gear set in a GM case/input shaft.

Great for a off road rig though I guess.
