New Member - 1986 GMC MY6 Manual Trans 2wd

Hello. I am the proud owner of a 1986 GMC C1500. My dad special ordered the truck in late 1985 and it has been in the family ever since. The first truck actually got totaled in December 1985 with 700 miles and a paper tag. He had to order again and wait on the replacement. It has a 305 (350 wasn't available with this trans), MY6 manual trans with OD, 3.42 Locking rear axle, HD brakes, HD shocks, HD front sway bar, 235/75/15 tires which got the 8.5" wide rally wheels. My father passed away a couple of years ago, but this truck will never leave the family. I learned to drive in it when I was about 12, my brother and I drove it thru high school in between various old car projects, and we have passed it around between the three of us for the last 20 years. The truck has 192k on the original drivetrain, though the clutch was changed once. We have abused that transmission in ways that shame me now but it still works. The truck got a terrible paint job a few years ago and needs the interior redone again, but it has never been wrecked. I have attached a picture below and will attach a picture of the interior / shifter area and the service parts decal tomorrow.

Howdy! These OD 4 speed trucks are starting to come out of the woodwork... I like it!

We have always really loved this truck. I could talk about it for hours. My dad drove a lot for work when he bought it. His company paid him for his vehicle. He hated automatic transmissions, so put those together and this is what you get. He was into restoring 60's muscle cars already at that time and we used this truck to tow a car trailer and haul for years. That's why he added all of the HD options he could. He always expected that OD to shred at some point and planned to drop a Muncie 4-speed (car type M20) because he had a shop full of those. On top of towing, my brother and I absolutely abused this thing for years. We tried to blow up the 305 figuring that Pop would put in a 396 that he had. We banged that trans for years catching 2nd's and trying for 3rd's. If you hit 3rd hard enough the dash would slam when you dumped the clutch but no way that 305 was going to turn over the tires when 3rd was 1:1.....HA! Later, in 2005, I owned it again. My pregnant wife and I were moving and this truck moved everything I owned one load at a time. I gave it back to my Dad soon after when I bought a newer truck. Once again though in 2008, I got laid off and ended up taking this truck back. After a clutch master cylinder it became my every day ride again until my Dad died in 2012 and I inherited his 2007 GMC 2500 Duramax. Dark Blue of course. My Dad always said that we could pass this truck around but it could never leave the family. I know that between my brother and I that will never happen. I don't plan on letting it leave my possession since it's mine right now!
