There have been several threads started on the subject here but I dont believe anyone has dedicated to actually doing it yet. If any has I dont believe any pics have been posted. If you take it on take pics and do a write up! I think using a torch is an inevitable part of a swap like this. Welcome to the forum!

cut a 4wd frame behind the front body mounts ( incase you ask wich front mount the front cab mount behind the engine ))))) this way you have all the parts u need and so you have something to measure from. grab the tcase and cross member too .drill all the rivets out so they can be knocked out then swap all the front cross members and suspension mounts . ive done several on mint condition trucks that i wanted 4wd. done several dodges also . they are time consuming and alot of work . you will need tall jack stands lots of drill bits not cheep ones either. and a whole saw for the rear shackle mount to the frame. lots a stainless bolts went back into mine and locktite everything you dont wanna take loose again. LOCKTITE IS YOUR FRIEND IN THESE SWAPS.....

Stainless is a bad choice for this, you want Grade-8 bolts!! Stainless has a grade of like 3 I believe!

Totally Stainless does offer Stainless steel bolts in the right alloy to have enough strength for an application like this, but I would still definitely prefer regular grade 8 bolts, or even grade 9 if you can swing it (McMaster-Carr carries those).

After some reading I saw 2205/2304 stainless which is really strong but the most common is 18-8 and hopefully Tony is aware of the difference. Buy your fasteners at a place like Fastenall and ask the counter guy what is best for your application. I'm betting they would recommend zinc coated carbon steel over stainless, but if you got the deep pockets for it they'll turn you on to the high strength stainless.

Weclome to GMSB Carl.

IMO, Converting your 4x4 Crew Cab Dually to 4x4 Single RW will be much eaiser and cheaper than a 2wd to 4wd conversion. Any reason you haven't thought of that instead?

thanks for all your imput i have been reading up on it some i already have two donor set ups as far as why i don't want to convert my 4x4 dually is simple to much rust for what i want and i don't want one ton rears. i live in smyrna delaware. i'm not afraid of doing the rear thats the easy part so is the front spring body mount alittle cautious about the front rear spring hanger. i'm pretty sure i already have almost every thing i need. but i'm courious about i've seen some peoples post about the frame being taller that much i already know it starts just at the front of the cab and until the rear arch of the frame but what are they talking about the cross memeber being different height. any imput on that would be nice

K30 Center crossmember/frame is over a inch taller at the front spring hangers of rear axle than a K20 of same year. I had to change one out that was rusted in half in a K30 and all I found was a K20 that was handy.
