Hey all, new from Kent, WA here (just south of Seattle).

I have an '87 V10 SWB with a 350 on 33x12.5" tires.

So far I have:
  • Replaced ball joints (all)
  • Replaced tie rods
  • Replaced fuel pump relay
  • Replaced oil pressure sending unit & switch
  • Replaced spark plug wires, cap & rotor
  • Replaced air filter with K&N

I drove by this truck for a week on the way home. While another guy was getting his $2,000 to buy the truck, I beat him to it.

My plans are to use it as a daily driver & to haul stuff around.

I absolutely love my truck & wish I had more time (& money) to work on it.

Right now I am trying to figure out what in the hell is blowing my gage/idle fuse intermittently. I removed the PO's aftermarket alarm system that was a complete hack job...

A little about me:
I'm a retired US Marine—I was an 0331 machine gunner & was injured in an IED explosion in 2005. Broke almost every bone on one side or the other, lost my right thumb & the use of most of my right hand. The HMMWV did a backflip & landed on top of me. Gave my life to Jesus under that HMMWV. Died on the flight back to the US, got resuscitated mid-air & spent 2 weeks in a coma...now I'm a pastor.

Hobbies include my wife, church, my dogs, my truck, anything USMC, a good beer, & lawn/garden.

Wow that's a great intro. First and foremost I want to thank you for your sacrifice to the safety of our country. This is something that cannot be said enough. :patriot: Whenever you get ready to dig into tracing down the electrical gremlins post up a thread in the electrical section and I'm sure we can help you get it lined out. Other than that, welcome to the forum!!

Here's some pictures.

Took these tonight while removing more of the PO's extra wiring & trying to find what might be shorting out my gage/idle fuse. Next thing I want to do is replace doors, weatherstripping & window motors & regulators.

If it is the "Gauge / Inst Lps" (instrument lamps) fuse, the printed circuit on the dash cluster may be grounding out on something. I only suggest this because it happened with mine. Driving down the road I could hear an occasional electrical crackle, blown fuse, same ole same ole.

Somehow, I missed your intro Shawn. Welcome to GMSB of course, most of all thanks for your sacrifice and service. Glad to hear you're still with us, and doing good things.

I'm back! I had to sell my 87 because of financial reasons but now we're doing a lot better. I have an 87 Accord as my daily and just bought an 86 Chevy C20 flatbed 3 speed for $850. It was owned by the WA State Fish & Game Dept since new. Came with owners manual and everything. A bit dented up, but no rust anywhere!

Welcome back. Looks like you did OK. It appears the bed alone would be about $800 or so to buy it new.

I'm mainly using this one as a hauler. We live on a private road that used to be paved but no one kept up. This summer I want to fill in the potholes with recycled asphalt.

Also, I am doing a lot of work outside. Replacing boards, dump runs, removing a lot of old gravel covered in grass where I park and replacing it, etc.

Not a resto project at all, but I do want to get it back into better shape. Doing a full tune up sometime soon. Already bought all the parts. It backfires like nobodies business under heavy acceleration, so I'm wanting to address that.
