May have posted here a while back but just picked up another truck. Sold to me as a 1980 with salvage title but looks to be hacked together. VIN makes no sense to me so if someone can set me straight I'd appreciate it. X for engine shows a 307 by my info but in a K30? The B for year has me puzzled as well. Looks like a 1978 front end to me but my memory sometime fails me. Plan on making this a working truck and will tear down and start over. Runs good but leaks like a sieve so going to take the front end of for ease of working on it. Pulling the motor and doing all the gaskets and seals along with rear main seal. I do need a Power steering pump and bracket for a hydroboost so if anyone on here from around Dayton, Ohio is on here, let me know. Worked with Chevy 4x4's a good bit and currenty have a 1978 1 ton chassis under my 41 Dodge Military truck. I'd post pics but it is a Dodge. LOL Here are some pics of the one I bought. I will be selling the bed off of it shortly if someone needs one.

Wiring is cobbled up and only the speedo currently works. LOL Trans shifted bad and ran rough. They had both ends of the vacuum line to trans off and the line laying in there backwards. Line was plugged on top of that. Works fine when it's hooked up...go figure.

It's a 79 or 80 front end. It seems to be a mix with the dually and either 3/4 ton or 1 ton SRW front end also.

I was just sent this chart. The one I had showed digits 6 an 7 reversed so it is a 1980 cab at least. Notice they show X as being available in the 1973 - 1975 models. Think it would just be a typo on the tag?

Can you get the serial number off the engine block? That X must be a typo. I had a 307 in my 68 C10. My Dad took that engine after I swapped a 327 in and he rebuilt it and put it in his 77 C10 short box. With better heads, cam, and 4 barrel, it runs damn near as strong as my 327.

Well, talking on another forum and found out there are a lot of bad decoders out there. Here is the correct one and it says it is supposed to be a 400 small block.

A 400ci makes more sense in a 1 ton dually 4x4.
