Mystery Part... Found in engine compartment

78 C10 2 wheel drive, 350 engine. Anybody know (for sure) what this part is for.

I found it here... in this mess... under the battery tray where the inner fender meets the core support. It has since been cleaned and painted.

Wondering if it might be part of the power steering mount up, the PO had the power steering pump cobbled-up. I am still trying to figure out how to get the PS pump mounted and adjusted properly.

Maybe power steering, and maybe the ac bracket that bolts to the power steering bracket. I wonder if it might be for the smog pump? Hopefully somebody can elaborate. I checked some old photos of mine but can't get a clear view from the photos.

Yes that is the power steering adjuster bracket.

It is for the top of the power steering pump when you have the AC compressor on the passenger side. I have that exact bracket on my 350 with the A6 AC compressor on that side.

Wonder why someone used that area as the garbage can for bottle caps?

AAAAAHHH HAAAAA!
You guys were right! It was a power steering adjustment bracket. No wonder the PS was not bolting on and adjusting properly... I was trying to put together a puzzle with one of the pieces missing.

Sad Sack, I traced the part # you gave, and it led me to a diagram on Chicago Muscle's site that shows how it bolts to the engine. I was really scratching my head trying to get that piece bolted on somehow. Here it is mounted on.

I now have the PS pump and belt on and adjusted.

Now, if we can only answer Grit Dogs question of why the PO was using that area under the battery as a trash can for oil caps. That old engine must have burnt a LOT of oil. And why did he throw that adjuster bracket under there? There was no way that pump was tight, it must have been squeeling like a pig. Glad I found it there when i cleaned it up.

My guess would be that PO removed the bracket, set on the inner fender and it happened to slide down and they F-it and left it. Or they may not have even realized it went missing.
