Not sure if this is your problem, but I once had some old heads that would leak oil down the valve stems after the engine sat for a while, which caused a few seconds of exhaust smoke on startup. After that, no smoke at all. These were earlier model heads with no oil control except for o-rings under the retainers, some of which had been pinched. So I simply added these "umbrella" seals that ride up and down on the valve stems. Problem solved. However, if you're fouling plugs, your problem could be more serious.

You can probably get the Sealed Power or Fel-Pro versions at NAPA or other parts stores.

***By the way, low cranking pressure can be caused by an aftermarket cam that closes the intake valve a lot later than a stock cam. Not sure that's the reason for your low pressure, but it is why a big cam needs more static compression, and will typically do more harm than good in a low compression engine, like the GM Goodwrench 350.
