Ok so swapping out my manifold. what is this thing off the stock that I've got marked CR. the Edelbrock manifold doesn't have a spot for it, so can I just cap the vac line that was going to it?

ok so if the new manifold doesn't have the spot to bolt it onto, what happens if I just leave it off and plug the line that ran to it?

nothing it'll work just fine without it.....

BUT, if you have to pass emissions testing, visual or sniffer, you may fail without it.

If no sniffer or any type of emissions test, remove it and call it a day.

No emissions testing here in the land of the northern oil. Thanks guys. Was worried my lack of knowledge led me to get the wrong part and thought maybe the guy at the shop wasn't as knowledgeable as he seemed. :suicide:

So I'm guessing that since I am removing the EGR valve, I no longer need this flapper valve on the passenger side exhaust manifold right?

You can just leave that, it stays open with no vac line to it. Its more work to modify the pass side pipe to meet up if you remove that EFE valve, or you could find an earlier manifold that didntnhave it. I just left mine on there...11 years no problems.

agreed pipes won't bolt back up if it's removed, best way is to just get headers to do away with it.

efe is early fuel evaporation, or some crap. Like he said it won't shut or anything with it unhooked so it'll let the air pass thru and be as if it weren't there

Another thing you could do, and you probably have the stuff to do it laying in your garage already, is just take the butterfly valve out, and tap the shaft holes on each side, and thread some short bolts in to plug them, leaving the exhaust path open...wont make much diff either way though.

I have pulled those deflector apart, because it started to rattle, and plug welded where the shaft goes through, weld held ok, on that cast iron or steel, whatever it is made of.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately no welder, but I like the idea of tapping the shaft holes and just tossing a short bolt in each side.

And yes the headers route is coming. Soon I hope.
Speaking of which...
Anyone know what shorty's or mid-lengths require the least amount of retrofitting the exhaust?

Only use headers for 73-87 squares. Our trucks have narrower frames than the GMT400 1988 new body style.

pretty sure I heard of ppl using chevelle headers before but not sure.

I would also just buy some that fit the truck, just long tubes and have the exhaust work done to make em work.

I just set the butterfly in the full open position and bend the crankarm over with a hammer so it stays there.
