My wife just got a lift on her SUV and now she is pressuring me to get a lift on the stepside. Is this worth it? Is this something that will make the truck any better? It seems weird to lift a 2 wheel drive truck to me. Her SUV is also 2WD, so I do not get it.

Dayum, Lucky Dude !!! Most women are against lifts, and damn sure don't like allocating funds for a lift kit on a truck. As Retro would say, I think you need to tong..... Nevermind, I guess I should be on good behavior now. I'll let someone else explain.

PS Moved Thread to Lifted Suspension category. :waytogo:

I think what's more important is what you want to do with the truck.

I wouldnt lift a 2wd but that's just me.

Didn't even realize it was a 2wd, but I agree. Maybe a bit taller street tire to add an inch or so, which means 2 inch taller tire.

As far as suspension lift, the most I'd do is level it off. Lifting the front a couple of inches is bit harder than lowering the rear a couple but it can be done.

I'd say that would be about the most you'd want to do. Level it off by lifting the front a bit, and a bit taller tire, call it good.

There have been times in my life that I thought I would not like something, then someone talked me into it, and I found out I did indeed like whatever it was. This could be one of those times, and I knew that members on here would have good opinions and input. My personal desire is to get as much enjoyment out of this truck, and if a lift might do that, then I might consider it.

My dad had a 3/4 ton '73 long bed that was lifted a little with mud tires on it. It looked really good but at the end of the day it was still a 2WD.

I think that's cuz you got dropped as a baby. On your head. :Wedgie:

Hahahhaa. :dogpile:

Are there even lift kits out there for 2wd's? I never looked into it.

I did have a 2wd Dodge truck with a 3" body lift, you may want to go with something like that to keep it simple?

There used to be lifts for 2wd's, probably not anymore though. The whole idea is good ride and more ground clearance for mild offroading.

I had a 2wd Blazer that fit 32's on it without any clearance issues, I think the wheels were 15x8's.

BDS sells lifts for 2wd trucks but only newer ones (07-10). personally if you wanted a little height on that id go with the body lift like 89S said.

I saw a '72 with a 4" to 6" lift on it. I thought the truck looked cool until I saw there was no front axle, and then the truck just looked dumb. I cannot recall how they raised the back, I believe it had rear coils but it may have been leafs, and for the front they used a huge block of steel to go in between the frame and the front suspension assembly to lower down the control arms. Somebody put a lot of thought and effort to make a good truck mostly worthless.

I think you really need to ask yourself, what are you going to do with truck? You said get as much enjoyment out of it as you can, but what form of enjoyment is that? Are you going to offroad it? If you are, then a lift and bigger tires will be nice and you be happy with your choice. Is it just going to get street driven? Then stock or slightly lowered might give you the most enjoyment. Either way, narrow down how exactly you want "enjoyment" out of the truck, and go from there.
