How hoarding happens.
Hoarding and the subsequent decline of said item. Just like all the asshats with rows of cars and trucks they're gonna get to someday.

Can't tell you the amount of people that have fifty squares sitting in rows. It's not even financial gain at that point, it has to be some materialistic mentality, it's mine and no one else can have it and I don't care if it goes to ****. Those guys with all them cars don't sell **** either, if they try it's way above the value in its condition.

Yup...same thing happens with toys/diecast/figures/etc. If you're going to get premium $$$ for something, it has to be in mint condition, perfect package, all accessories there....
I had a bunch, over a hundred pieces, of Hot Wheels and other primo cars, get damp at a show several years ago, because I had a tarp on the table that had a hole or two in it(outdoor space at a swap meet, rained overnight). When I uncovered in the morning, I had a bunch of mint condition cars with wet packages. So I spent an hour bagging up loose cars.... A major reason I don't like outdoor spaces, but that was what we could get for that show.
My boss's husband watches a lot of YouTube TV, all the "classic/vintage trucks for sale" shows. I've seen exactly what you are talking about on them; at least my Dad's 75 Sierra Classic and the Caddy Burb were in nice shape when we had to sell them cause they were stored inside. Caddy Burb got squished by a falling tree a week after the guy bought it, but usable parts were harvested for other trucks. I think it was karma, for what pittance he gave my Mom for the 75.....

I blame Barrett-Jackson.
So do I. Old cars used to be cheap. Anything over a hundred thousand miles was considered worn out... but usually had many miles in it. My first three cars cost less than a hundred dollars in TOTAL. A '54 Olds that ran great and was in great shape except for a dent in the side... $20.00. A '57 Olds that was dent free and solid, but ran like crap on the way home. I put new plugs and points in and adjusted the carb, and went out and laid a thirty foot burn-out. A fast car top end with a four speed transmission... $30.00. And a '61 Caddy convertible with leather two tone seats that ran fine and drove after putting a battery in it and some gas in the carb. After sitting for years it started right up and I drove it home... $40.00.
I even bought a good running convertible '64 GTO for $400.00, and a '66 for $125.00.
Now people want thousands for rust buckets and Trabants.

They definitely have partial blame. Same with all the car restoration shows.

I think the biggest factor right now is still the coof prices. My area has almost reached "normal" 10 years ago prices. Some things still remain overpriced, usually specific people or specific vehicles. Cummins trucks are ridiculous still.

A huge part of the problem is junk new cars that you can't fix yourself and only a dealer can fix. Plus junk parts and engineering, people are getting fed up with new cars. 90's chevy's have been making a comeback, even though they never left up here. I see over 10 every day I'm on the road.

Same thing in the more working class parts of the greater Houston area. OBS GM trucks are on every street....of course I notice them more, and squares too when I see them, cause I have history with these trucks..... And I see fixed up OBS trucks, and others that are just "patina'd" and still getting the work done. My neighbor Paul wants an older truck, every time he helps me with mine, and I think my buddy Bernard enjoys driving mine too. He has to borrow it and me, from time to time, to haul more than his Colorado will handle.....

Once you get an old enough vehicle ironed out and it's not some orphan model, you have very few problems, quality is junk in the old world too but once you find the right parts and everything clicks you hardly have any issues.

The simplicity satisfies my soul. I work on my own stuff. I had an 06, dreaded what the next thing to go wrong would be and how much it would cost/suck to fix. I traded for a rougher ride and lesss creature comforts, but I've said it before and will continue saying it, I'll daily a square the rest of my life.

Here's one of my vintage igloos, the one I use the most. Doesn't say playmate anywhere but it says igloo on the bottom.

Not really John Deere green, don't know if it ever was or if it's that sunfaded lol

I picked this 1955 Roadmaster bike up at an estate auction years ago. It’s the original Roadmaster, made by the Cleveland Welding Company in 1955, around the time they were bought by AMF. The S/N is stamped into the crank hub, followed by the year (55) and the letter “C” with a small “w” inside it, signifying the Cleveland Welding plant. Starting in 56 AMF moved manufacturing out of Cleveland. Now it seems every Chinese bike you see is called Roadmaster.

I had to replace the chain, tires and wheels and found a piece of leather to re-cover the seat. I went through it mechanically, greasing and replacing bearings and fixing the kickstand so it stayed up when riding. It’s original paint btw.

Paid $50 for it and wheeled it over to a tree while the auction continued. Soon a young woman walked up with an elderly man, who was using a walker. She asked if I had bought the Roadmaster and I said Yes. Turns out the old man had bought that bike new. I told him I would treasure it and enjoy it and he seemed happy with that.

I ride it around home between the shop and house, but really look forward to the beach with the miles of flat sidewalk. Ride it for miles when there!

This handwritten document is my paternal grandfathers honorable discharge from the US Army following WWI in 1919. The stamped info in the lower left indicate he was given $60.00 and discharged. He returned home to the family farm in Iowa.

Back in Iowa he farmed and raised 5 kids, including my dad of course, by himself after his wife died at 33 yrs of age due to complications from childbirth of my dads younger sister.

Found this jacket on FB Marketplace, it said it was at "Ally's Attic" and my GF knew that place. It was an antique shop so she was game to go, turned out to be a real big place

Been needing a good ashtray for work and found this cool one too. From my research, it seems to be a late '60s-70s one
