These were cheap.....I've had them around for over 50 years. First had them on the 70 Chevelle when new, then on my ChevyII and now on Koop's S10. 14x 7 on the front 14x8 on the rear. Hard finding tires :33: .....205/60 and 235/60......he couldn't come up with the extra $40 for the 245/60s ......lol....and I've already got too much in it.....:rolleyes:..... I'm stuck in the 60s and 70s for tires and wheels

Your mower doesn’t splatter the rear wheel with grass clippings caked to it?
Is this a mower or a Sunday go meetin cruiser? Lol
PS, zero turns are so nice, aren’t they? Makes using a lawn tractor like commuting to work in a model A.

I don't understand why everyone loves a zero turn so much. I get that they are very useful for many many people because you can maneuver so much easier and save a lot of time. But beyond that, what's the big deal? You can't push car with them. You can't move a trailer with them. You're very likely to get stuck if you try mowing a ditch with them. You can't put a snow plow on them. And etc. My rider has a comfy seat, a tilt wheel and is very easy to use. Well, I guess it's really not just a rider. It's a small garden tractor.

Last summer, my brother in law was staying with us for a bit and the grass hadn't been cut in a while because I had been out of town. It was thick, green and about 12" tall. My little 18hp JD was working really hard to cut it and my brother in law kept blabbing about how we needed a zero turn, as if that would magically cut the grass faster. I think that may be the mentality of a lot of folks. But I didn't need a zero turn, I just needed more horsepower.

I find them at work randomly but i dont like them that small loll

Lol, I'm not arguing that they don't make a lot of sense for many many people. Just that they aren't needed or "better" if maneuverability is of little concern.

I know you frequently disagree with my opinion about something and that’s cool. And I totally agree with you if I wanted or needed a single power unit for mowing, plowing, rototilling, minor grading and pushing cars?
But I only need a mower. And I’d prefer a fast one and one that zips around trees and one that rides more comfortably because my yard/pasture looks like a mole bombing range. No, it doesn’t magically cut a blade of grass better. I understand that. Seems weird to lump my mower preference in with your dislike for them because your brother in law says dumb stuff….
Idk about stuck mowing a ditch. I don’t think a garden tractor with basically the same tires gonna do any better in the mud. I just stay out of my ditches until they dry up. Thinkin I’d do the same if it was a lawn tractor too.

The top pic is an old Ferris I finally got and ditched the pull behind Swisher mower deck.
It was a beauty. Old, but only reasons I got rid of it was it was kinda underpowered for its size and it was old enough it was gonna need tires and hoses, etc and Covid doubled its value. Lol
New one, I wish was a Ferris but it cost much less and only gave up the suspension. But gained 50% hp and higher blade speed. It’ll bale some
hay lol.

So sure if you don’t like quicker and maneuverability keep mowing with that model A.
Most people would prioritize efficiency as a fair consideration when purchasing something to spend hours doing chores with.
Maybe when I retire and get bored I’ll get an old tractor so I can kill more time mowing….

To be clear, I don't dislike zero turn mowers. But when someone has several acres to mow and very few obstacles for the amount of grass being cut, it makes little to no difference between a zero turn and a garden tractor. No matter what, you can only go as fast as the horsepower will allow. I only quoted your post because you said it was so much nicer to operate. But it's still just a seat, a frame, an engine, a deck and some wheels.

That's one of the things I love about my old Cub Cadet. The whole front grille and headlight frame is a single piece of cast steel, you can push whatever the hell you want with it, lol.

I just used my gx255 to pull a stump
I would like a zero turn for my field of machinery , but it wouldnt be the safest for our front hill (about half of the mowing)
Since my field of machinery can instead be mowed by darting to all the machines, getting around the perimeter of everything without having to make redundant turns, then once they are mowed 1.5 deck widths away, you can start at any edge you prefer and work in as you please, whether its the square closing in, diagnol shots (for appearance of the stripes i guess), or just working inward from a chosen edge, it would only end up in my ownership accidentally

Im thinking im gonna use my new holland from 1973 to pull my finishing mower up the hill and do the wide open parts of my field since its 60 inch and my new holland has no mower deck, sits higher off the ground and the exhaust is high up (not gonna start a fire in tall grass , and the decks engine goes exclusively to cutting grass not propelling the tractor)

But if I had no tractor or just one of my JDs , a zero turn wouldnt be a bad investment to have for the other mower, my gma or I could do the hill on the regular and the zero turn would be the field., Then the tractor would pull the random stump or move the trailers or clear a path in the woods or chop down the ant/gopher mounds
