Hello, after removing both the aftermarket carpet and the original vinyl/rubber flooring I discovered this hole. Actually two holes, one in the flooring and one in the firewall. They match up perfectly and they appear to have been punched through, inside to outside. Very weird.

Could anybody think of any aftermarket accessories that would require this. Or could it be an unfortunate case of drinking while deer hunting? :)

There was some dateline? 20/20 episode a long time ago about Remington 870s accidentally discharging if you bumped the stock. One of the guys in the interview, his gun had gone off 8nce by accident and put hole in the roof of his truck, he wrote it off as a fluke occurrence. But it happened again at a later date, don't remember if he got shot or his wife got shot, but somebody got sued.

This is/was the Remington 700 rifle. Never have seen/heard of any issues with 870 shotties

If I were Cipriano, I'd slide a broomstick through the interior hole then through the firewall and see if there are any parts that have been replaced or any impact signs.

It kind of looks like a tool made it, but very well could be caused by a bullet. Edit: Saw you mentioned the diameter of the hole, yeah most likely caused by a firearm.

When I was 11, my brother had just got his lever action 22mag rifle. He was unloading it by cycling the lever and counting. The muzzle was near my head, more specifically about 6 inches from my right ear, and was pointed towards the wall of the little trailer. He thought it was clear and pulled the trigger, POW! right by head. I jumped up, ear ringing, cussing him, and then we saw the hole in the wall. Luckily it was in a direction that was wide open desert, so the bullet didn't hit anybody or anything live, but still, stupid move. I don't know if he learned anything from it, but I sure did.

Arnie and Mike in Arnie's 57 4 door, 12 guage pointed toward the hump on the front seat......Mike says "Arnie, this thing loaded?" and reaches over and pulls the trigger........Yep, it was loaded. The noise was TERMENDOUS, the hole in the hump large, and the old Powerglide did NOT survive......For what it's worth, neither of these guys are alive.....Mike went in 1969, street racing a Camaro in his 65 Impala, and Arnie got killed crossing a railroad track less than a 1/4 mile from home in 74 :(
