Had to go junkyarding for work yesterday. Scored a full set of smooth, painted Suburban fender flares for $48. These should work just fine on my truck, I'll just have to trim off that little tail on the 2 rears

Also grabbed a full set of Escalade interior handles for $3/ea

A good idler pulley with it's spacers and some random hardware and bracket for the intake cover for my C10. Now I just need the cover

AutoZone also called me and said my AVS Ventshades were in, so I picked those up. This is the 4th set I've ordered for this stupid truck. Either wrong parts sent or offbrand swapped in. Finally got the right ones and put them on last night when I got home

Then did more junkyarding today. Scored a smooth, painted upper bumper pad for $9. It has a minor gouge that I'll have to fill but shouldn't be bad

Also scored a really nice dark charcoal version of the Buick wood wheel for $33. It's a dookey brown wood, but for that price I won't complain, I can get it hydrodipped or painted. Plus even the center of the wheel and the buttons are nicer than my current wheel

Looks like you had a pretty bountiful harvest at the wrecking yard.

Also grabbed a 2500HD cluster from another yard so I'd have a trans temp gauge for $100. These are guys I've gotten to know well, they said it all worked perfectly so I trust them. Otherwise I'd have haggled

Looking back at those pictures of the bumper pad, I realized that truck had a hood on it. I didn't even look at it and looking at their inventory, it was an '06. FAK. Guess I'm going back tomorrow lol. It's worth the $2 entry to see if that's a good HD/'06-07 hood. Can't believe I didn't look today

Yeah these yards have quite a few NBS trucks in them. There were 6 Escalades at one and 4 at the other. Guess I know what I'm gonna start doing more regularly

That's how the self service yards are around here too. Pick n pull, speedway, $1 or $2 entry fee.

Yep, they're all either $2 or $3 to get into if it's a self service yard. It's either that or the yard won't let you go in at all, you just tell them what you need and they pull it

Stopped back in that yard again today in between going to 2 others to look at that '06 hood. It was still there, it was straight as an arrow...

A buddy of mine had told me you can use vent control buttons from a ~2014ish Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain to dress up the GMT800 vents. There were several in the yard so I grabbed all of them lol. The side vents toward the doors can be used but the center vents, the little button is too fat cuz the bars inside the vents are much fatter, so they won't work. I think I ended up with 14 of those lol. Also grabbed 4 vent assemblies out of another 800 so I can practice before doing mine

Also grabbed the AC knobs out of a Buick Rendevous cuz they're a direct swap for my plain black ones

This yard gets $5/ea for vent assemblies. So I just popped that little button off of each one, they don't charge you for little knick knack stuff like that thankfully. So all of that was less than $20. You can see all the vent control buttons that are inside those NBS vents :happy175:

Also grabbed some out of a different Buick SUV, not sure I can use these up front but thought maybe for the rear AC vents in the console since they're much smaller

Then the yard I mentioned I'd become friends with got in an '06 Denali (as well as a couple OBS trucks) so I booked over there to check them out. The OBS trucks didn't pan out for anything but I grabbed this dash bezel. The gray will need to be repainted (literally all of them do at this point) and it has one very small crack up top that I think I can plastic weld on the backside and maybe flow a bit of nail polish clear in and it'll be fine

Also got the window switch panels out of the Denali to match, I'll just have to die them dark charcoal and plastic weld/epoxy the clip pieces on the driver's side

The best score of the day was this steering wheel! This came from my friend's yard too, they'd just taken in a low mile '06 GMC Envoy Denali that'd gotten T-boned hard. This is pretty much the unicorn version of these wheels, the only more desirable wheel is the black SS one that came in some TBSS and SSS trucks. Most of these are tan or light gray, it's REALLY hard to find a dark charcoal one. I had to pony up a bit cuz they wouldn't sell just the wheel, they wanted to sell the whole column for $150. I told them I'd give 'em $100 for just the wheel and they agreed.

Now I just need to learn how to hydro-dip and get the wood to match the Denali dark gray wood. I had no plans to start on interior mods yet but when stuff's hard to find, gotta snag it lol

The LKQ yards around the Houston area seem to be getting more NBS/800 stuff in, the last few years. Still have a few OBS trucks in them, so I can get stuff for my boys. The '06 Denali we had, had that same cluster in it, with the 120 speedo and the trans temp gauge.

I never heard of a Cover Charge for a Junkyard.
The self service yards in Houston have been that way, since they were Pick Your Part, back in the mid 80s. It was $2 a head, and when you checked out, if they didn't have what you wanted at that yard, you could get a pass for one of the other Pick Your Part yards (4 in Houston eventually, 3 still open as LKQ's). Dad's idea of a good time was to hit all of them on a Saturday....we made some good scores back then.
Now the LKQ's are $5 a head, not sure if they still do the "pass". Went to the Northside one Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and scored some NBS PY0 factory 8 lug alloys, for half price plus the core charge. They had a three day sale, but that was the only day, and yard, that I went to. Too damn hot, and the heat/humidity suck my energy more than in my younger days.....
The other yard I go to, the U Pull And Pay in SE Houston, only charges $3 a head, but if you join the VIP club you can get in for $2! It's not quite as fancy as the LKQ, but if they got stuff I can use, it's worth going across town for.
Best self service yards I've been to, is outside of Austin on Texas 71, called Wrench A Part. They have an air conditioned, covered lobby and checkouts, and the yard is arranged more orderly than the yards here. We drove by it on the way home from the Lone Star Roundup car show and swap meet last month, and the parking lot was packed! Was a nice day for hunting....
