I do agree with Rusty pile, rewire after the original scheme, right color coding, just follow the original scheme - wire by wire. I did that on my truck 10 years ago, and no problem at all since.

Question: Where to buy fusible links?

Most auto stores- rockauto.com has big selection

or you can buy fusible link wire and make your own.


Fusible links are usually 4 gage sizes smaller than circuit it is protecting.

example: 10 awg circuit would have a 14 awg fusible link

Not a shunt, just a buss bar connecting link. My question, why would you want to remove what every square truck has? If you want to add any new fused accessories, this is an easy place to connect them.
Where does the wire on the left of this junction block go?? Starter lug? Alternator??

Where does the wire on the left of this junction block go?? Starter lug? Alternator??
That wire goes to the starter/battery positive cable. It also has a fuseable link and if the truck is still original from the starter that wire goes into the metal tube bolted to the bell housing. That tube protects all the small wires to the starter from the heat of the passenger side exhaust manifold.

@Jgonick s' picture on post #8 shows there are 2 fuseable links going through that tube.

This Image will allow you to trace all the red wires off the junction block. But it depends on the year etc.. most are very similar though. This diagram is from an 86.

yeah, I got side tracked trying to remember where one of the red wires off my junction block ran to. Finally had to go look- Went to the A/C blower relay. :rolleyes:
As mentioned earlier the junction block is there to make it easy to add accessories. A few other possible ones could be auxiliary fan, auxiliary battery, camper equipment, heavy duty trailer. etc..
