Installed a new high torque mini starter in my truck this weekend.. Wow, lots of pluses there.

The old starter, in order to remove it I had to drop the front drive shaft..

To install the new one, I checked to see, and sure enough, it slid right past the drive shaft.

Hooked it up, it starts the engine no problem.

Permanent magnet, brushless design promises much more longevity, more torque, and less power drain.

And, it was $35 on Amazon!

I'm using the exact same starter on my engine with 10:1 compression. Bought it directly from DB Electric. Part number SDR0031-L. Works great.

I installed one of those DB Electrical starters on the 454 about a year and a half ago. Dunno what happened but it suddenly started making funny "plates banging together like an old 90s beater car" sound last summer. Sent a message to them and they got a new one in the mail to me no questions asked.

Damn thats good service!

Never used one but know people that have them, and they all say good things about them, heck for what they get for them you could buy two of them and have one for a spare. lol..

Depending on brand you buy a spare flex plate, ring gear or flywheel wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Sometimes the get hungry the cheaper ones or even the good but misaligned ones.

I’m sure the ones made of Chinesium have powdered metal gears and only the finest castings with all the little air pockets we’ve come to know in Chinese casting practices.
