The one I was picking up was a 87 Cherokee in awesome shape, new tires and brakes. Ran great but needed a fuel pressure regulator, not to bad for 350 bucks! Decided not to get it since I have my hands full with the GMC.

My dad has a nice 43 ww2 Ford Jeep, he swears it wheels better than anything he's ever driven. Cool little Jeeps!

Those Willys, with a short wheel base will go anywhere, and I am not aware they tip easy at all. The weight is all startegically places and they do great. I know a guy who made a conversion plate and put a carbed Buick 231 V6 in a Willys with the OEM Tcase and Trans. Man that thing would go about straight up a hill without any problems at all. The little heavier V6 up front only made the traction even better. Buick 231's are fantastic little bulletproof motors with plenty of torqe and hp and when I say little, I mean little. They are little motor as far as size. Also work well in Toyota 4x4's.

My pops rolled his, I recommend getting a roll bar asap. He said they were fine and just rolled it back onto its wheels, no damage really.

Sounds like you got a good plan there. V8 would just be crazy, maybe even crazy dumb for several reasons, although I'd hate to really say that, cuz to each their own, but its JMO. To much power and squirley for one. And of course the breaking stuff if you want to keep the OEM powertrain. Really 82, take a look at the specs on the Buick 231 as far as actual size of it, weight and horsepower you get out of the little package. Its just about ideal for a Willys. Fairly economical too. If you aren't aware, its the same motor as GM uses now in the 3.8 FWD drive cars. The 3.8 is the Buick 231. Of course in the FWD fashion its differant and you wouldn't want that one for a Willys. Here is a pic of a Buick 231 RWD motor and trans that I got out of an 80 Monza I bought. Notice how small it is in referance to the power steering pump. Seems the accesories up front themselves are about 1/3 of the motor. Take all the smog junk off of it, and it actually pretty clean looking and easy to work. The dizzy is up front too. Keep in mind, these come in 2 varieties also. Odd Fire and Even Fire. The even fire is preffered of course, like this one I got. Also if you're not aware, surely you have heard of the Buick Grand National? The Fast Turbo V6. In its time, the mid 80's it actually beat the same year Corvette. That also was Buick 231. So its a motor that has been around a long time and its proven itself well. Just don't confuse it with the Chevy 3.8 V6 from the mid 80's. Huge Differance. Also lots of aftermarket bolt ons for the Buick 231. I'll also picture one of those I picked up cheap for if ever I put my 231 to use.

Good point there dog, BUT, it is the same bore, stroke, configuation and is Buick footprint is the point I am making. Biggo differance in an Olds 350 and Chev SB 350. Nothing in common whatsoever.
