Early Squares also had a fiber optic cord to light the wiper/washer switch. The other end of those fiber optic cables plugged into the back of the 194 bulb dash light sockets. Special bulb socket, one on each side of the dash.

That looks like the brake warning light switch wire (parking brake). It should connect to the switch on the parking brake pedal assembly.

Agreed.

It should snap in to a slot just above the ashtray. When the dash lights are on, it will give of a faint glow.

It's the fiber optic for the ashtray. Comes from the top right gauge light socket. Pops into the top left corner of the ashtray pocket.

Fibre optic for the light tray. Got it! Thank you all. Let you know when I reinstall it.

Update, I tried running the optic wire and this is as far as I can go with it. I'm doubting it's for this lighter in immediate foreground. Any other thoughts it could go? To help with identification it's an 80' GMC Suburban

It goes into the square hole in the top left of your pic.

Do you have it in the correct gauge light location? From the pic it looks like there's plenty of length.
