I need a diff housing that can spin both tires. I know it sounds really dumb... But good burnouts are essential for a high school-er. A locking diff would be nice, so would a detroit. Just trying to see if i could pick up something relatively cheap.

I don't want to spend a lot. But I don't mind saving up a little bit longer for a superior product. As far as drivability goes. I'm not going to weld it together, but I can't imagine a different diff causing any severe drivablity issues.

A racheting locker isnt very street friendly, or i was gonna recamend that. Im probly gonna put on in my monte.

If i was you, i would just save up for a nice posi, go with like a detroit true trac or something. Or you Could find a Auburn, i believe they came factory in squares, ask 89S.

your truck should be 8.5"

All 1/2 ton truck axles 81-87 should have been 8.5"

Thats whats reffered to as a racheting locker, they suck on the street, the "rachets" have to slip A LOT on corners.

He would be much better off with a posi.

I'm guessing you're never actually driven a vehicle equipped with one. Once you get used to it, it's not bad at all. Makes a little noise, but not bad.

I was looking at 1 for my monte, and its not neceserally made for street use. Yea, you might get used to it, but it has to rachet a lot on turns.

It might work for you, but my personal opinion i wouldnt recamend one myself for a daily driver. Front is ok tho.

I have an Eaton Limited Slip with the spring loaded carbon discs. Very streetable and smokes both tires at take off. Quite smooth cornering. It's a little pricey at close to $500.

And that noise is amplified if you have an aluminum topper on the truck. Pretty much every time I parked in a parking lot someone would come up to me and say "Hey- your truck is making a bad noise". :emotions34:
